As a dedicated teacher for over three decades, community service has always been woven into the very fabric of my life. Even after retiring from the classroom, my commitment to making a difference persisted. Embracing knitting as both a passion and a business venture, I found a creative outlet to channel my creative spirit. However, my desire to stay connected to my community and give back to my roots remained strong. So, I started a heartfelt journey of knitting for a cause, directing my talents towards the tiniest members of my hometown's hospital—the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This small act can have a big impact for the NICU, a simple skein of yarn can weave threads of hope and comfort for those in need.
If you knit or crochet there are so many organizations that would love your products. I know I always have some yarn in my yarn stash that I can turn into the coziest items to help these babies who need a little extra love. The nurses tell me how much the hats mean to the families. To see their little one who is fighting from the beginning in an adorable hat, helps the parents have a moment of comfort.
Here are some pictures of the tiny hats I have donated over the past few years!

Here are some websites where people can donate knitted items:
1. Warm Up America: They accept knitted items like blankets, scarves, and hats to distribute to those in need.
2. Project Linus: They collect handmade blankets to provide comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or in need.
3. The Snuggles Project: They accept knitted blankets for animals in shelters to provide them with comfort and warmth.
4. Knit for Peace: This UK-based charity accepts knitted items like blankets, clothes, and toys to distribute to those in need worldwide.
5. Local homeless shelters or charities: Many local organizations accept handmade knitted items to distribute to people experiencing homelessness or hardship in your community.
These are just a few options, but there are many more organizations out there depending on your location and the specific type of knitted items you're looking to donate.
